[CASE STUDY]

Transforming Insurance Certification: IIAP's
Innovative Leap with Talview

Organization Profile

Insurance Institute For Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) was founded in 1974. It is the only training institute catering to the 7100 islands of Philippines, organized to serve the education and professional development requirements of the life and non life insurance industry, and the only organization accredited by the Insurance Commission to administer the licensing examinations in traditional life insurance, nationwide.

Challenge

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought unforeseen challenges to various sectors, including the insurance industry in the Philippines. The traditional examination process, heavily reliant on physical presence and manual grading, became impractical due to lockdowns and travel restrictions. This situation created an urgent need for a solution that could maintain the continuity of professional certification while ensuring the safety
and convenience of candidates.

They considered developing an online exam system from scratch but realized the time and cost implications, and decided to opt for an external vendor.

Solution

Online Assessment Delivery Platform

IIAP started with a pilot implementation of Talview's platform. It demonstrated its effectiveness in conducting online assessments, offering a seamless experience for both administrators and candidates. Overcoming initial challenges, such as internet connectivity and device availability, the platform's successful integration marked a significant milestone in IIAP's digital transformation journey.

Result

Key to the project's success was the collaborative approach between IIAP and Talview, ensuring the platform's functionalities aligned perfectly with the institute's requirements.

  • The platform's versatility allowed IIAP to expand its usage from life insurance assessments to approximately 20 additional courses, spanning both life and non-life insurance sectors.

  • The transition to online assessments significantly reduced the backlog of agency applications, a pressing issue exacerbated by the pandemic.

  • By enabling remote examinations, IIAP ensured the uninterrupted licensure of new insurance agents, vital for the industry's sustainability during challenging times.

Conclusion

IIAP's strategic partnership with Talview in adopting an Online Assessment Delivery Platform has demonstrated the power of innovation in addressing complex challenges. This case study underscores the importance of embracing technological solutions to enhance operational efficiency, improve access to professional development, and sustain industry growth amid adversity.
